Joe Auger - Builder (Hockey) - Class of 2025

Joe Auger brought unwavering commitment and dedication to Milton hockey in an all-encompassing way. Originally hailing from Timmins, Ontario, Joe’s talent as a player took him to the Dixie Beehives Jr. A team, a feeder club to the NHL’s “Original Six” teams.
His potential was recognized when the Chicago Blackhawks selected him in 1957. Following his time in the International Hockey League in Louisville, Kentucky, Joe moved to Milton in 1965, where his hockey influence would be transformative.
Joe was instrumental in the growth of Milton Minor Hockey, serving as a coach and mentor. He played a key role in the creation of division hockey in Milton, coaching multiple minor and junior teams, including stepping behind the bench of the Milton Merchants (1969-70), the Milton Continental Flyers Jr. B team (1974), and the Milton Tridents Intermediate B team (1976).
Joe’s involvement extended well beyond the rink, too, and in 1980 he founded Milton Welding Ltd., a business which earnestly sponsored and supported Milton hockey and softball teams year after year.
Joe was also a founding member of the famous Milton Oldstars Hockey Team, which, decades later, continues to give back to Milton’s hospital. His diligent work both on and off ice has made Joe a respected pillar of Milton’s sports community.
